Private Label & UFI Marking - current status
We would like to inform you about the new developments in the field of private label and UFI labeling. The following deadlines now apply for the UFI marking depending on the user group of the products:
• From 01 January 2021: Products which are made available to end consumers (NEW: Deadline extension until 2021)
• From 01 January 2021: Products for professional use
• From 01 January 2024: Products for industrial purposes
According to current information from our chemical office, there are considerable difficulties in implementing UFI labeling in practice, which is why the go-live of the process is likely to be postponed further and, if necessary, new deadlines set.
The registration portal is online, but no EU country officially accepts the product notifications and 1/3 of the countries have not yet decided whether they want to use the portal at all. Switzerland will introduce its own system. The EU recognizes difficulties in the UFI process (especially with changing suppliers) and seeks to develop solutions in the second half of 2019. Although the portal already allows certain tests, uploading self-generated reporting files, the validation of data recorded online is only partially possible in the test system. In addition, it is not allowed to print UFI codes on labels even now, if the products are not yet officially registered. If adjustments to your labels are necessary, we will inform you before the next order in any case.
We regret that we are unable to provide you with any further information about the further proceedings at the current status. We will keep you up to date. If you have any questions or would like an individual consultation, our employees from the customer service and the graphics department will be pleased to help you, tel. +49 9369 9836-0.
