WIKO Adhesive Competence Center

UFI code and product registration according to the CLP regulation

We would like to inform you about the current status of the UFI code. Together with our service provider for regulatory affairs, we generated the UFI codes for our GLUETEC products. These are managed by Mrs. Meister and are available immediately. Starting in January 2021, the UFI codes will be printed on The GLUETEC GROUP safety data sheets and promptly also on the product labels. The product reports are currently being carried out by our service provider and will be completed by mid-December 2020.

General information

All companies in the European Economic Area that market chemical products labeled with hazardous substances must label their products and safety data sheets with the respective UFI code (Unique Formula Identifier). This code is generated electronically from the sales tax identification number of the distributor and the special formulation number of the product. Only the poison control centers have access to this information. You can find detailed information about the UFI under the following linkhttps://poisoncentres.echa.europa.eu/documents/22284544/22295820/ufi_what_it_means_en.pdf

Current deadlines for UFI labelling:

  • From January 1st, 2025: All products that were previously reported and sold without a UFI
  • From January 1st, 2024: New products for industrial purposes
  • From January 1st, 2021: New products for end users and products for professional use

Please note that for UFI labelling a new product notification is always required according to the harmonised notification procedure via ECHA. You notify your products independently for the countries to which you want to sell the respective products. The notification can be done by yourself or by a service provider for regulatory affairs. Further information on the notification procedure can be found here: https://echa.europa.eu/guidance-documents/guidance-on-clp

UFI procedure for GLUETEC customers

In order to act in accordance with the law and to make the UFI marking as easy as possible for you, we are now offering you two options:

1. You do not obtain the safety data sheets from GLUETEC

Then you have to create your safety data sheets incl. UFI codes yourself or hire a service provider to do this. Please choose

a) whether you wish to use the GLUETEC UFI codes free of charge or

b) create your own UFI codes.

In this case, you are responsible for ensuring that your safety data sheets are up-to-date and for reporting your products at all times.

2. You commission GLUETEC to order the safety data sheets including the UFI code

2.1 UFI

You decide,

a) whether you wish to use the GLUETEC UFI codes or

b) whether we should create new UFI codes for you free of charge or

c) whether we should use your existing, own UFI codes if you have already assigned your own, please let us know.

Your codes will then be transferred to your safety data sheets. GLUETEC will provide you with the current safety data sheets including UFI codes as PDF.

2.2 Product notification via the ECHA portal

You decide whether you

a) want to notify your products to ECHA yourself, or

b) entrust GLUETEC with the ECHA notification. The prerequisite for this is the prior preparation of the safety data sheets via GLUETEC!

Please note that we can only make product notifications in the European member states of the ECHA portal. Further national notifications are not included. Current ECHA country list available at: https://poisoncentres.echa.europa.eu/echa-submission-portal

We recommend the following procedure to our private label customers

Products that are already notified can be sold with the existing labels without UFI during the transition period until the end of 2024. We recommend that you carry out the changeover with the next new version of your labels. If adjustments to your labels are necessary, we will inform you before the next order. Your old labels will then be used up after consultation or destroyed at your expense. Please let us know how you would like to proceed in the future. If you have any further questions or would like individual advice, our staff will be happy to assist you:
