The accelerator is a substance that increases the speed of a chemical reaction even when small amounts are used. In relation to chemically curing adhesives, the use of an accelerator means shortening the curing time. It is also colloquially referred to as an activator, hardener or catalyst. Two-component adhesives are referred to as accelerators. It is the component that increases the reaction speed of 2-component adhesives. It can be used to speed up reactions that are otherwise too slow to occur in a reasonable time, or to control reactions under controlled conditions.
