PFAS (per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances) are a group of persistent chemical compounds used in many everyday products such as water-repellent clothing, nonstick cookware and food packaging. These substances are controversial because of their extreme stability in the environment and in the human body. 

Disadvantages of PFAS products: 

- Environmental pollution: PFAS are hardly biodegradable and accumulate in soil and water. 

- Health risks: Studies indicate that PFAS can weaken the immune system, stress the liver and increase the risk of cancer and hormonal disorders. 

- Drinking water pollution: In many regions, high PFAS concentrations have been detected in groundwater, which requires complex water treatment. 

Because of these risks, the use of PFAS is increasingly being regulated and environmentally friendly alternatives are increasingly being sought.
