Post-crosslinking is an important process in polymer chemistry in which already crosslinked polymer structures are linked together through further chemical reactions. This is usually done by introducing additional cross-links between the polymer chains, which leads to a change in the physical properties of the polymer.
Through post-crosslinking, polymers can become stronger and more resistant to chemical and thermal influences. This makes them ideal for applications in areas such as electronics, aerospace, medicine and automotive.
In terms of adhesive, it is a completion of an incomplete curing process by activating additional chemical reactions.
For example, if a hardening process cannot be completely completed at room temperature, the addition of heat can, among other things, complete the solidification of parts of the molecule that have not yet fully reacted. Due to the higher temperature during curing/post-curing, the molecules have greater mobility and thus enable better crosslinking of the adhesive.
