Biological limit value

The biological limit value (also known as "Acceptable Daily Intake" or ADI) is an important term in food safety and toxicology. It indicates how much of a certain substance a person can take in daily without expecting negative effects on their health.

This value is calculated based on studies of the toxicity and absorption of substances and takes into account factors such as body weight, age and gender. It is used to assess the safety of chemical substances in food, medicines and environmental samples.

The biological limit is an important factor in monitoring and regulating substances that enter our environment and bodies. This helps to protect public health and minimise negative effects of chemical substances.

However, it is important to note that biological limits are not absolute guarantees of safety. Some people may be more sensitive to certain substances than others, and there may also be unforeseen effects when substances are present in combination with other chemical compounds. For this reason, it is important to continuously monitor and review biological limits to ensure that they are in line with the latest scientific knowledge.
