"Irreversible" means that a change or reaction cannot be reversed. In general, the term is used in chemistry and physics to describe reactions that are irreversible or to describe materials that, when altered, permanently lose their original properties. An example of this is the irreversible polymerisation of plastics, in which the linking of molecules cannot be reversed.
