N,N-dimethyl-p-toluidine (DMPT)
N,N-dimethyl-p-toluidine (DMPT) is a chemical compound that is frequently used in industry to accelerate the curing of plastics, resins and adhesives. Despite its effectiveness, however, DMPT harbours considerable health risks: it can irritate the skin, eyes and respiratory tract and is suspected of being carcinogenic. In view of these risks and stricter legal requirements (e.g. under the REACH regulation), the use of DMPT is increasingly seen as problematic. Modern companies are therefore focussing on safer, more environmentally friendly alternatives and avoiding the use of DMPT wherever possible in order to protect employees and the environment.
